1) Great performances: Performances do not sag like the ones in regular action flicks. Leonardo gives a power performance, as the clandestine dream-hacker, who has a frightening nightmare on his own. HE never resorts to over-acting or indulgence. He adds a zest to his high-octane performance.
Juno star Ellen Page too does justice to her role as the inquisitive architect who yokes with Leonardo to fabricate a dream-town and also helps Leo in seeking redemption. She may have the in-your-face talking style but she never sounds too abrasive or rude. Joseph too has a sizable role and he does a good job, commendable enough to earn him probably an MTV or Teen Choice award. The sundry actors have surely been selected after some deliberation, since all get to the skin of their characters, making the movie consummate in witty dialogs and situations.
2) Script. The explanation is self-explanatory. Probably the best in years. Highly complex, never to abstruse to be understood by highbrows only. It does have a flaw though : If Leo and wife lived for 50 years in a limbo state and in a frame, they appear to be clearly senescent, how is it that when they lie on the train tracks to wake up, they are young again? Still, the concept itself is teeming with marvelous twists and adrenaline-pumping action.
3) Direction: The Dark Knight director Nolan has brilliantly conceived a seemingly-impossible idea and made a brisk movie that never seems to be too prolix or prosaic. Everything is original. The director took his time and its well worth it.
4) Movie itself: The movie aims for the jugular. It never digresses to inanity, always keeping the pitch high enough. I am not going into details since the movie's greatness is almost axiomatic, with people raving about it.
Acting: 7.5/10 Story : 9/10 Action: 8.5/10 Gut-impact: 9.2/10 Direction: 10/10! Overall: 9/10.
